PRESERVATION BREEDERS OF AMERICAN FOUNDATION ARABIAN HORSES

Fort Biggs Arabians lies nestled in the beautiful Platte River Valley of south central Nebraska. The farm was originally the site of a supply fort established by J.T. Biggs in 1871. The old Pikes Peak Trail passed by this ranch.
Clayton and Gloria Nelsen purchased the property in 1968. Fort Biggs Black Arabians began in 1980 with the purchase of their foundation stallion, AS Nile King, 100% Early American Foundation and 100% Malabar breeding. Their black foundation mares, JA Royal Phantasy and Jer-Ara Phantara, are unique in being heavy Raffles bred in their pedigrees and having the very rare Jilfan Sitam Al-Bulad dam line thru Saada 721. They are also 100% Early American Foundation. Fort Biggs has remained a small operation, raising quality, gentle natured Arabians; some of which have gone on to do very well on the show circuit. The latest being their stallion, Nafis Rafiq (Malabar Ibn Duke X Naashi Phantara). In 1998, Rafiq was high point Arabian halter and tied high point all-breed halter in the Kansas City Open Show, as well as placing third at the American Royal in four year and younger Stallion class. He had 19 first place and 3 second place showings on the 1998 KC Show Circuit. In 1999 Rafiq placed first in his class 17 times, second twice, and three third place showings. In 2000, he only showed four times, but placed first in each show.
AS Nile King is ranked in the Arabian Horse Times (August 2000 issue) as 31st in the U.S. and Canada in black foals produced. Jer-Ara Phantara and JA Royal Phantasy are 39th and 40th in mares producing black foals. Fort Biggs Arabians is 37th in producing black foals (researched and compiled by Darlene Miller).
After 28 years of breeding beautiful, sound, black Arabians, we are proud to announce that we will be continuing our breeding program and specializing in Arabians who excel in driving and sport horse competitions.
